Frostpunk 2 was announced a calendar week ago with a unappeasable teaser, a brief synopsis of the new setting—coal is out, oil is in—and no unblock date. 11 Bit Studios warned that the game is static "pretty early in development," and likely a unsound way off. That hasn't prevented online retailer Kinguin from offering "preorder Steam CD keys" for sale, leading to a very strong response from 11 Bit urging fans non to buy them.

The keys are actually being sold past G2Play, which is part of Kinguin—the two unified in 2020—and pages happening both sites carry a notification that the purchase is strictly a preorder, and that keys won't actually be delivered until the game is released, whenever that is. They're presently leaving for $47 CDN, which I would ballpark approximately $40 US—maybe not unreasonable but as wel entirely arbitrary, given that official pricing on Frostpunk 2 hasn't really been set yet.

11 Bit Studios made a annotation of that point in its reception. "We don't know the price of our game yet, we don't have any keys," the studio apartment tweeted. "Some SHITTY SCAMMER sells Frostpunk 2 on pre-order under umbrella of another CROOK Kinguin?! Retweet & let's nominate some randomness to stop it."

"Every bit a far addition to our annunciation about scammers - they have PEGI rating while we serve non know it yet (!) and they embedded our trailer from Epic Games Stash awa while 'selling Steam keys' along pre-order. Sorry, but this is ludicrous."

For the record, the trailer indicates that Frostpunk 2 will comprise available happening Steam, the Heroic Games Storage, and GOG.

Kinguin is a "key reseller," which is basically a appendage market where anyone can sell game keys. Resellers can be a bit of a Wild West: They ply a way for citizenry to make a few bucks along excess keys picked up in, for example, a Crushed Bundle, but they're also open to less-scrupulous behavior. G2A is probably the most notorious of the gang: It's been accused of fraudulent behavior by studios including Gearbox, TinyBuild, and Unknown Worlds, and other indie developers have gone so far as to ask cheapskates to pirate their games rather than buy them from the reseller.

This particular office is dodgy at the best: The listing states that keys "will atomic number 4 delivered upon the game's release date," but that could exist—likely testament be, according to 11 Bit Studios—literally eld away, and because a price hasn't been localize it's very possible that hoi polloi bequeath end high paying to a greater extent direct Kinguin than they would if they'd just gone straight to Steam or Epic. Information technology's clearly committed to take advantage of people who aren't with attention or sporting get into't know any punter.

"We used bitter words just not without a reason; technically speaking, they are selling something that doesn't exist," 11 Bit Studios said in a argument. "We accept access to the game at its current state for internal examination, of course, but we're not generating keys that could be sold, ransomed, and give players access to the pun."

"Most importantly, we haven't even started a preorder campaign yet. This means that the false information Kinguin is putting out there can cause a bunch of troubles when Frostpunk 2 is officially available for purchase. This could include backlash aimed at U.S. about Kinguin's pre-orders and their taken-outright-of-space game cost if our official pre-order price is different. We could also receive complaints from people who bought those non-existent keys from Kinguin occasionally having trouble actually getting the keys from them down the road."

11 Bit Studios said it would like to go steady industry-wide carry through against this classify of thing, and in the meantime may try to have the Frostpunk 2 preorder Thomas Nelson Page arrogated downfield. "But they will apt retributory ignore us as this is something they do with former games," information technology said. "Some legal actions could be extremely vexed as they are—probably for a reason—a Hong Kong-registered company.

In a statement of its own released on Honorable 19, Kinguin acting CEO and CFO Brandon Doerfler denied that the reseller was doing anything untoward, and said that the listing has been adjusted to be clearer that it is only for a preorder.

"We know there is much excitement surrounding the upcoming release of Frostpunk 2 and want to connect fans with merchants who are offering the key," Doerfler said. "We excuse for the inclusion of unconfirmed information that appeared in the listing along Kinguin.net income in regard to Frostpunk 2. We have since removed this and made information technology clear to anyone visiting our site that the game is available for preorder only."

The Frostpunk 2 Steamer key itemization remains online.
